Randy’s Story

Once hailed as one of Louisiana’s greatest high school athletes, former NBA guard Randy Livingston is now using his platform as a coach and mentor to raise awareness about problem gambling. After quietly battling a decades-long gambling disorder that started in childhood and escalated during his pro career, Livingston reached a turning point in 2017 and entered treatment. Now more than four years in recovery, he’s sharing his story to inspire others, especially young athletes, to seek help and make healthier choices.

Finding Recovery After Problem Gambling

Gail’s Story

After years of hidden struggles, Gail Suchy lost everything including her job, money, and hope because of gambling addiction. Her turning point came after a devastating loss and a suicide attempt. With support from The Center for Recovery and Capital Area Recovery Program, Gail rebuilt her life and now helps others as a peer support specialist. She has not placed a bet since 2018 and is calling for more treatment resources as online sports betting grows in Louisiana.
